New Brand Wrestling Results For Saturday, January 22

 http://jamestuchscherer.blogspot.com

Tonight, New Brand Wrestling (NBW) presented their first show of the new year entitled New Year's Retribution at the Ellice Theatre and Cafe. For those of you who have never been inside the Ellice Theatre, imagine a stage at the end with a wreslting ring and behind the ring a big movie screen.  Wayne Stanton first started there when he was promoting a company called River City Wrestling. Now I, The Master Blogger will cut to the chase and get to the card.

Opening promo: The General Manager Cory Diamond announces that he has good news and bad news. The good news is that the NBW Heavyweight Title has been returned and at the next New Brand show, they will be having a tournament to crown the new NBW Heavyweight Champion. Bad News is that due to many injuries, Trent Nash has been stripped of the Mid-Canada Heavyweight Title and later that night there was going to be a Rumble to crown the new Mid-Canada Heavyweight Champion.  Next, the Soul Society comes out and get in Diamond's face which leads to Laurence Fozzworth III coming out and stripping Cory of his GM duties which to me was a disgrace. Soul Society then beats down Diamond, Billy Blaze makes the save, punches the Soul Society's manager Milton Jones and breaks his sunglasses. Blaze then gives Diamond a Studs Inc. T-shirt and makes a match for later in the evening. Diamond then says ''You know, the last few months you saw Cory Diamond in a suit but I just got my duties taken from me by a Weasel!''

Opening Match: Spanky vs. Damon Marxx - Spanky taunted the crowd by saying ''I don't suck!!'' Very good, very exciting match, as my best friend said ''that's how it's done. Spanky rolled up Marxx and got the 3 count. During the match, Spanky got pantsed!!! Winner: Spanky

Match #2: The Soul Society vs. Studs Inc. (Billy Blaze & Cory Diamond) Diamond and Blaze broke into the business together (River City Wrestling). During the match, The Triad who were in the audience started calling them Soul Sisters. Other than that, very entertaining tag team match. Studs Inc. win via submission. Yee Haw!!!

Match #3: ''The Rebel'' Bobby Collins vs. La Sombra - I thought this was a fantastic match between the River City Wrestling legend and The World's Smallest Wrestler. La Sombra won the match by reverse decision when Collins would not release his finishing hold. As Collins put his finishing move on Sombra I said to myself ''That's the Bobby Collins I remember.''

Match #4: It was a Falls Count Anywhere match between ''The Misfit'' Mike Mission and Zamil. The match started with Mission getting a boot to the face and then later in the match got thrown out of the ring where Zamil grabs a record from under the ring and clocks the Misfit with it. Mission recovers and grabbed a cookie sheet to whack Zamil but somehow Zamil recovered and whacked The Misfit with a kendo stick. Mike then grabs a cheese grater and attacked Zamil with it. Zamil then goes for a suplex, The Misfit reversed the suplex and then grabbed plywood. Mission proceeded to Irish Whip Zamil into the plywood but Zamil reversed it. Mission put on the brakes and sent Zamil crashing into the plywood for the 1-2-3.

Intermission: several wrestlers came out to sign autographs

Match #5: Vinny Valliant and Dirty Dick Walker vs. Ike Idol and Marius. I got the thumbs up from Valliant before the match, Valliant and Walker were a very interesting combination. Lots of textbook wrestling between both Marius and Valiant but in the end, Marius & Idol got the W.

Match #6: Rumble to crown the new Mid-Canada Heavyweight Champion. Winner: Bobby Collins. Collins added New Brand gold to his resume just like I predicted.

Match #7: Pepito & La Sombra vs. Big Cliff Corleone - Pepito and La Sombra were working very hard to take Corleone down. Ike Idol came out during the match and tried to hit La Sombra with the tag belt but instead clocked Big Cliff. Winners and the NBW tag team champions, Pepito & La Sombra

The History Of River City Wrestling & A Possible Future Return

http://jamestuchscherer.blogspot.com/

Today I thought that I would talk a bit about River City Wrestling.

River City Wrestling was founded by the trio of Wayne Stanton, Dave Pinsky, and Doug McColl in early 1993, with their first show being held on May 13, 1993 at the Chalmers Community Center. From the very beginning, it was their hope to create a circuit which was similar to the New Brand Wrestling circuit which ran shows from Chalmers approximately a decade earlier, in which Stanton was also involved in their run at the club. Since that time, the group had seen several transitions of power with the result bringing about the absenses of two of the trio. Wayne Stanton assumed total control of the company now and has utilized the skills and abilities of the company to create a whole new phase in the RCW evolution.

River City Wrestling had presented many shows across the province of Manitoba. Though focusing a great deal of time and energy into shows in Winnipeg, they have also presented cards in Souris, Brandon, Somerset, and other communities. In addition to these, matches had been held at the Manitoba Developmental Center in Portage La Prairie where the wrestlers had taken time out to spend with the mentally-handicapped. As well they had performed at carnivals, festivals, and various fund-raisers at different levels.

In 1994, the promotion had programming on the Shaw Cable Network. The quality remains unmatched at the regional level even today.

To gauge the caliber of the wrestlers of RCW, all one had too do was pick up any wrestling magazine on the newsstand. In fact, they had appeared monthly in dozens of newsletters and magazines worldwide. Four members of the River City Wrestling roster were even listed in the annual ‘’Pro Wrestling Illustrated” Top 500 wrestler listing in 1994, and again in 1995.

RCW became home to many local superstars ie: Mike Stone, Brian Jewel, Bobby Jay, Buddy Wiser, Billy Blaze, Cory Diamond, Robby Royce, Vance Nevada, Madman Muir, Reggie Gallagher, Marius, Ozz, Bugsy Slugg, JJ Walker and even some of today’s local stars such as Danny Duggan, AJ Sanchez, Kevin Chevy, Don Douglas, Rick Matthews (all who went on to bigger and better things).

They held wrestling shows at various venues ie: Chalmers Community Club, Bumpers Bar, Broadway Neighborhood Center, Teddy Bobs Bar etc. If it was not for River City Wrestling, there would be tons of guys on the independant circuit that would not be in the business.

Now onto what I am getting to. Last night as I was listening to the Wayne & Shane Show, I heard that there could be a speculation that River City Wrestling could start up again. I have a good feeling that it could begin again because there are not a lot of strong promotions in Manitoba with the exception though of CWE and SPW.

If it did start up again I think it could overtake New Brand, overtake PCW and compete with SPW.  I have a question for any of you wrestling fans reading this: Do you think it is time for RCW to start up again?

The guys who worked on that show ie: Buddy Wiser, Billy Blaze, Vinny Valliant etc. were very loyal to their product, were a family and always had entertaining shows. Despite the fact that Madman Muir and Wayne Stanton have had their difficulties I think Wayne could call Muir up and ask him to come work for him because Muir could be the top heel in that new promotion.

If Muir was heel number one, you add Ike Idol as heel number 2 and JJ Walker aka Dirty Dick Walker as heel number 3, and you have got a strong start to a new promotion.

In my opinion if River City did start up again, I can think of possible people who could work for Wayne again. Here are some names that I thought of:

Buddy Wiser
Vinny Valliant
Billy Blaze
Cory Diamond
Big Cliff Corleone
Pepito
Reggie Gallagher
Psycho Banger Jerin Rose
Shadow Xtreme (wildcard)

In conclusion I would just like to say, if RCW was to begin again, I would definitly go to their shows. Heck, I entered a contest and won a video cassette called: Introducing River City Wrestling back in middle school.

History Of New Brand Wrestling & My Opinions Of The Roster

http://jamestuchscherer.blogspot.com/

Established back in 1997, New Brand Wrestling has brought family oriented wrestling to fans in Winnipeg for more than 13 years. This family based promotion is operated by owner Omar Nicholas, his lovely wife, as well as newly appointed co-owner Louie Hendrickson. Together they have been entertaining Winnipeg fans from such venues as Dagmar Community Club, The Salvation Army on Logan, The Indian and Métis Friendship Centre, and now onto the new home of NBW the Ellice Theatre on Ellice and Sherbrook.

Over the years NBW has been holding its own against well know promotions such as PCW, RME, CWE, CWF, and RCW. While working along side these promotions, NBW is making its own claim to fame in the circuit with some old and new faces, ideas, and attitude. With 2011 well on its way, expect to see stars like: "The Rebel" Bobby Collins, Ike Idol, “The Misfit” Mike Mission, Billy Blaze, and many more. Come one come all and check out New Brand Wrestling live at Ellice Theatre in Winnipeg Manitoba or on Facebook and Youtube.

“Where the Masked Messenger always delivers the goods!”

Now I will give my opinions on the roster:

Billy Blaze - Former RCW (River City Wrestling) Heavyweight Champion and is one of the best Aboriginal wrestlers in Manitoba today.

“The Rebel” Bobby Collins - Is best known for facing his mentor Caveman Broda in a Garbage Can Match.  I think he will add gold to his NBW resume.

Cory Diamond - Also got his start with River City Wrestling and Wayne Stanton. Is doing a great job as NBW General Manager.

Buddy Wiser - talented, draws money, Wiser also got his start with Wayne Stanton and River City Wrestling. As one half of the River City Wrestling tag team champions Studs Inc., I see good things for this guy.

Damon Marxx - I expect big things from this big guy

Big Cliff Corleone - Also got his start with River City Wrestling and is one half of the NBW tag team champions with Pepito.

“Iron” Ike Idol - Also works for Steeltown Pro Wrestling out in Selkirk. This guy can really get the crowd going and is one of the top heels in Manitoba.

Jay Lanza - Also works for Steeltown, with Louie Hendrickson as his manager, I see a bright future for this young man.

Ichigo Yagami - formerly known as Ryuzaki Light and Yami Light as well as leader of the Soul Society, this young kid will go far.

“The Misfit” Mike Mission - Dubbed by Wayne Stanton as one half of the new Wild Ones, I predict a bright future for this young man.

“The Great” Pepito - Also got started with Wayne Stanton and River City Wrestling and is one half of the New Brand Wresting tag team champions with Big Cliff Corleone.

Ricky Rivers - The other half of the New Wild Ones with Mike Mission as dubbed by Wayne Stanton, they will be tag team champions one day.

Spanky - Also got started with River City Wrestling and mentor for AJ Sanchez, this crowd favorite I see big things happening.

Zamil - Do not know much about this guy but I expect big things from him.

Trent “TNT” Nash - From Ringmasters to PCW to New Brand as the Mid-Canada Heavyweight Champion, this big guy is dynamite as his entrance music says.

Shadow Xtreme - Also works for SPW, This young kid has potential to make it big.

Marc Merric - This young man is very talented and can work anybody.

“The Brewski” Tom Lockley - Will be very interesting now to see how he fairs as a member of the Soul Society.

“The Masked Messenger” Omar Nicholas - Always delivers the goods.

Louie Hendrickson (Laurence Fozzworth III) - also known as The Weasel and Manager Of Champions, it is good to see him & as he likes to refer to him as his pa, The Masked Messenger working a Fifty Fifty partnership to run New Brand.

For those who have not been to a New Brand show, I urge all of you to get out and check it out this Saturday when NBW presents New Years Retribution at the Ellice Theatre located at 587 Ellice Ave. Doors open at 6:00 P.M. Bell time is at 7:00 P.M.  Come on out and support  local wrestling.  I know I will!!!

My Thoughts On The Roster At CWE

http://jamestuchscherer.blogspot.com/

I am going to say a few words about the roster at CWE which stands for Canadian Wrestling's Elite, the greatest company in Winnipeg.

''Hotshot'' Danny Duggan - the promotor and the man that got the company started. Has a lot of talent, karisma, will be the next CWE Champion.

Mentallo - multi-talented, has wrestled all over the world.

''Prime Cut'' Jon Cutler - working towards getting on Tough Enough. Has potential, awesome at what he does in the ring.

''The Brickhouse'' Paul Arcidi - can really get the crowd going. Will be a champion in CWE.

Bobby Fox & Matt Fairlane - Fox & Fairlane aka The Strip ''N'' Dales are an impressive tag team, should have won those tag team titles at the last show.

AJ Sanchez - incredibly popular, can work anybody, will be a 2 time CWE Heavyweight Champion in the future.

''Mr TLC'' Tommy Lee Curtis - great tag team wrestler with Tyler Colton, will be tag team champion one day.

Tyler Colten - This young up & comer has potential, can work anyone, will also be tag team champion one day.

''Pimp Daddy'' Rick Matthews - great worker, has talent, can cut good promos, I got respect for the Pimp Daddy.

Kevy Chevy - One of the greatest First Nations wrestlers in Manitoba.

Billy Blaze - Now that he has broken away from the Creebirds, I would love to see what he does on his own.

''The Face Of Country Music'' JJ Sanchez - I used to love country music when I was in middle school so I like this guy.

''Big'' Cliff Corleone - is the other half of the CWE tag team champions with JJ Sanchez. Has potential, very talented, got his start with River City Wrestling.

Big Brian Rich - made his return to CWE at the last show and now has plans to go after TJ Bratt and his army.

Team Impact - Robby Royce and ATM are no doubt the most dominating tag team in Manitoba wrestling. I say this because I grew up watching Robby in the Chalmers Rec Centre when he was with River City Wrestling.

Antonio Scorpio Jr. - is nice to see him in a CWE ring, has potential, as I said before, I love that tombstone piledriver.

''The Canadian Loose Cannon'' TJ Bratt - very entertaining, has good mic skills. I got his respect.

All in all, this is one hell of a roster of talent in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba. Kudos to Danny Duggan for getting the promotion started. Danny, if you are reading this, keep up the good work!!

CWE Results From Vince Leah For Friday January 7th

http://jamestuchscherer.blogspot.com/

As I, The Master Blogger sit here at my laptop, preparing for what will be the many of blogs for the Manitoba Local Independent Wrestling News blog, I begin to think back over the course of many years as a longtime wresting fan. I always wanted to be a columnist for the local wrestling scene and today I am getting my opportunity. So today, I will be covering last Friday night's CWE results. In case there are some of you reading this who don't know what CWE stands for, it stands for Canadian Wrestling's Elite.

For those who have never been to a CWE show, you don't know what you're missing!! Danny Duggan has really got a great thing going!!! so I am going to cut to the chase and get to the results from last Friday night's show:

In the opening contest it was  Kevy Chevy and The Brickhouse Paul Arcidi in a match to determine the number one contender for Pimp Daddy Rick Matthews' 123 Approved Title, Chevy made Arcidi look like a million bucks. In my opinion, Arcidi really knows how to get the crowd going.

In the next match, it was AJ Sanchez defeating the debuting Misfit Mike Mission. After the match Sanchez gets on the mic and cuts a promo talking about who they're going to bring  in next month for the 2nd Anniversary show, it's... drum roll please.... Carlito!!! Anyway, next out comes ''The Canadian Loose Cannon'' TJ Bratt and his crew saying: Don't worry Mr. Sanchez, this does not involve you. Bratt gets on the mic saying ''Tonight, I am going to wrestle for the first time in a long time.''  And so now here I'm thinking, ''He's actually going to step foot in the ring, be still my beating heart''. So  it was a tag match between JP Kaos and TJ Bratt (subbing for Antonio Scorpio Jr.) defeating the team of Tyler Colton and ''Mr. TLC'' Tommy Lee Curtis. After the match out comes Brian Rich and got a huge pop from the crowd. Rich  then gets on the mic and made a statement ''So TJ, you thought you got rid of me,  well ''I'm back!!!'' and then stated that he & Scotty Rapper aka Boyz In Da Hood will challenge Antonio Scorpio Jr. and JP Kaos to a street fight on February 4th at the 2 year anniversary show.

In the next match, it was JJ Sanchez and Cliff Corleone retained the CWE tag team titles defeating The Strip 'N' Dales (Bobby Fox & Matt Fairlane). After the match, Fairlane clocked Hump with a set of brass knuckles.

In the semi-main event for the 123Approved Championship, ''Pimp Daddy'' Rick Matthews defeated Billy Blaze with help from Kevy Chevy which to me was a shock. I think we might have seen the end of the Creebirds who knows. Great Match though, Match Of The Night.  After the match Paul Arcidi comes out, gives Matthews the Alabama Slam and says ''Pimp Daddy Rick Matthews, 2 year anniversary show, you, me, Dog Collar Match. Get ready for lots of blood in this one folks.

Anyway, let's cut the chase and get to the main event. It was a tag team match pitting ''Hotshot'' Danny Duggan & The CWE Champion Mentallo against Team Impact ''The Pissed Off Pitbull'' Robby Royce and Anderson Tyson Moore (ATM). There was plenty of animosity between Duggan and Mentallo during the middle of the match. Mentallo, I will say this, he's one hell of a performer, extremely talented wrestler, but I think he is working his way towards going heel.

All in all, it was a great night for local wrestling. I urge all of you who have not been to one of these shows to check it out. Next show will be February 4th which is their 2 Year Anniversary show of which I will be there. Until then, Be Champions!!!
